tathā ca tatraiva—
dṛṣtā spṛṣṭā tathā dhyātā kīrtitā namitā stutā |
ropitā sevitā nityaṁ pūjitā tulasī śubhā ||204||
navadhā tulasīṁ devīṁ ye bhajanti dine dine |
yuga-koṭi-sahasrāṇi te vasanti harer gṛhe ||205||
Translation
Also from the Skanda Purāṇa: Those who worship auspicious tulasī daily by nine processes — namely, seeing, touching, meditating, glorifying, offering obeisances, praising, planting, serving, and worshipping her — live in the Lord’s house for ten billion yugas.
Purport (Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura)
Ropitā comes from the root ruh whose meaning (dhātvartha) is sprouting seeds (planting) and making them visible (growing). The causative form is ropayati and the participle is ropita. Thus, the meaning is that every day one should handle the tulasī in such a way that there will be leaves and buds available every day, not that one should plant them every day.
Purport (Nectar of Devotion)
In the Skanda Purāṇa there is another statement about tulasī, as follows: “Tulasī is auspicious in all respects. Simply by seeing, simply by touching, simply by remembering, simply by praying to, simply by bowing before, simply by hearing about or simply by sowing this tree, there is always auspiciousness. Anyone who comes in touch with the tulasī tree in the above-mentioned ways lives eternally in the Vaikuṇṭha world.”
