Verse Text

tatraiva— antaḥ-śuddhir bahiḥ-śuddhis tapaḥ-śānty-adayas tathā | amī guṇāḥ prapadyante hari-sevābhikāminām ||263||

Translation

Also in the Skanda Purāṇa, it is said: Internal and external purity, austerity (sense control), peacefulness and other qualities take shelter of persons who desire to serve the Lord.

Purport (Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura)

Abhikāminām means “of those persons who have complete desire for service to the Lord.” These good qualities, on their own, take shelter of the completely dedicated devotees.

Purport (Jiva Goswami)

The word ādi (in śānty-adayaḥ) refers to qualities such as truthfulness and seeing things with equal vision.

Purport (Nectar of Devotion)

Śrī Rūpa Gosvāmī affirms herein that purification of consciousness, purification of bodily activities, austerities, peace of mind, etc., all become automatically manifest in the person who is engaged in devotional service.
