gopāla-rūpa-śobhāṁ dadhad api raghunātha-bhāva-vistārī | tuṣyatu sanātanātmā prathama-vibhāge sudhāmbu-nidheḥ ||21||

Translation

May the eternal Lord in the beautiful form of a cowherd boy, who distributes his mood of love to Rāma and other forms, be pleased with this first part of the Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu. Second Meaning: May the person named Sanātana Gosvāmī, who glorified Gopāla Bhaṭṭa Gosvāmī and Rūpa Gosvāmī and bestowed kṛṣṇa-prema to Raghunātha dāsa Gosvāmī, be pleased with this first section of the ocean of nectar!

Purport (Jiva Goswami)

This verse has two meanings. In relation to Kṛṣṇa, the form of the cowherd boy expands Himself into the avatāra forms such as Rāma. Kṛṣṇa is the source of all avatāras, the avatārī. He fulfilled the aspirations of the worshippers of the other forms. This expresses the great mercy of Kṛṣṇa. Taking another meaning, the author mentions four contemporaries. The second name mentioned is Śrī Rūpa Gosvāmī, the writer of the Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu. The first and third mentioned, Gopāla Bhaṭṭa and Raghunātha dāsa, are Rūpa’s friends. The fourth, Śrī Sanātana Gosvāmī, is the elder brother of the author of this work. Bhāva in the verse means kṛṣṇa-prema. Thus ends the Fourth Wave, concerning prema-bhakti, in the Eastern Section of the Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu. Purport (Nectar of Devotion)

Śrī Rūpa Gosvāmī thus concludes the first division of the Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu, offering up his treatise for the transcendental pleasure of Sanātana Gosvāmī, who has established the transcendental beauty, and of Gopāla Bhaṭṭa Gosvāmī, Śrī Raghunātha Bhaṭṭa Gosvāmī and Raghunātha dāsa Gosvāmī. It appears from this statement that the great Śrīla Jīva Gosvāmī was not yet active when Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu was written. Thus ends the Bhaktivedanta summary study of the first division of Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu, up to the descriptions of ecstatic love of Godhead, which are to follow next.
