bhaktiḥ premocyate bhīṣma-mukhyair yatra tu saṅgatā |
mamatānya-mamatvena varjitety atra yojanā ||3||
Translation
The analysis of the grammar of the above verse is as follows: Bhāva is called prema by Bhīṣma and others where there is possessiveness (mamatā) related to (saṅgatā) to Viṣṇu and where possessiveness of other things (ananya-mamatā) is absent.
Purport (Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura)
This verse analyzes the verse from the paṣcarātra. Bhakti means bhāva. It should be devoid of strong possessiveness of body, house and other items. That possessiveness which is related to Viṣṇu is called prema by Bhīṣma and others.
Purport (Nectar of Devotion)
Great authorities like Bhīṣma have explained that love of Godhead means completely giving up all so-called love for any other person. According to Bhīṣma, love means reposing one’s affection completely upon one person, withdrawing all affinities for any other person.
