(43) kīrtimān –
sādguṇyair nirmalaiḥ khyātaḥ kīrtimān iti kīrtyate ||158||
Translation
A person who is famous for spotless good qualities is called renowned.

In the same way, the meaning of kīrtimān is not “having spotless qualities,” but “a person who is famous for having spotless qualities.”
