Verse Text

(58) avatārāvalī-bījam – avatārāvalī-bījam avatārī nigadyate ||202||

Translation

He who is the source of all the avatāras is called “the seed of the avatāras.”

Purport (Jiva Goswami)

The word avatārī means “the aggregate of all the avatāras,” “He who possesses all the avatāras,” or “in whom all the avatāras reside.” This is because of His being complete, compared to all the avatāras. This is shown in the following statement: ete cāṁśa-kalāḥ puṁsaḥ kṛṣṇas tu bhagavān svayam indrāri-vyākulaṁ lokaṁ mṛḍayanti yuge yuge All the lists of the incarnations of Godhead submitted herewith are either plenary expansions or parts of the plenary expansions of the Supreme Godhead, but Kṛṣṇa is the Supreme Personality of Godhead Himself.
