Verse Text

prakāśitākhila-guṇaḥ smṛtaḥ pūrṇatamo budhaiḥ | asarva-vyaṣjakaḥ pūrṇataraḥ pūrṇo ’lpa-darśakaḥ ||222||

Translation

When Kṛṣṇa manifests all qualities, He is described by the intelligent as most perfect. Manifesting the qualities incompletely, He called more perfect, and manifesting even less qualities, He is called perfect.

Purport (Jiva Goswami)

In comparison to the other two, He is called most perfect by manifesting all qualities (though Kṛṣṇa may not display all the qualities all the time), because of the correspondence between the greater intensity of bhakti in Kṛṣṇa’s devotees. In comparison to this, when Kṛṣṇa manifests Himself incompletely (asarva-vyaṣjakaḥ), and shows comparatively less qualities, He is called more perfect. In comparison to that, when He manifests even less of the qualities (alpa-darśakaḥ), He is called perfect.

Purport (Nectar of Devotion)

When He exhibits Himself in fullness, He is appreciated by great learned scholars as most perfect. When He exhibits Himself in lesser degrees, He is called very perfect. And when He exhibits still less, He is called perfect. This means that Kṛṣṇa is appreciated for three degrees of perfection. These three degrees of perfection are especially exhibited as follows:
