Verse Text

itthaṁ sarvāvatārebhyas tato ’py atrāvatāriṇaḥ | vrajendra-nandane suṣṭhu mādhurya-bhara īritaḥ ||249||

Translation

Thus, it has been explained that the amount of sweetness in Kṛṣṇa exceeds that of all of the avatāras and the source of avatāras, Mahā-viṣṇu.

Purport (Jiva Goswami)

This verse, showing the most perfect position of Kṛṣṇa, summarizes the preceding description. According to the method explained in the previous section (ittham), being complete in sweetness, and also in powers, Kṛṣṇa is said to be superior even to Mahā-viṣṇu (avatārinaḥ), famous as the source of all the avatāras.

Purport (Nectar of Devotion)

Regarding all of the above-mentioned statements, it is understood that the Mahā-Viṣṇu is the source of all incarnations in the material world. But because of His greater, extraordinary opulence, we can understand that the son of Nanda Mahārāja is the source of the Mahā-Viṣṇu also.
