yathā –
malla-śreṇyām avinayavatīṁ mantharāṁ nyasya dṛṣṭiṁ
vyādhunvāno dvipa iva bhuvaṁ vikramāḍambareṇa |
vāg-ārambhe smita-parimalaiḥ kṣālayan maṣca-kakṣāṁ
tuṅge raṅga-sthala-parisare sārasākṣaḥ sasāra ||256||
Translation
An example: Lotus-eyed Kṛṣṇa, while gazing steadily and boldly at the wrestlers, shaking the earth like an elephant, proud with victory, His words touched with the fragrance of humor, entered the raised arena while sprinkling water on the stage.
Purport (Jiva Goswami)
His gaze was slow (mantharām), without meekness and agitation, and thus without modesty (avinayavatīm). Sometimes the phrase vṛṣa iva (like a bull) is found instead of dvipa iva (like an elephant).
Purport (Nectar of Devotion)
This trait was found in Kṛṣṇa when He appeared at the sacrificial arena of King Kaṁsa. It is described that the lotus-eyed Kṛṣṇa entered among the wrestlers without being impolite to them, glanced over them with determination and seemed to them just like an elephant attacking some plants. Even while speaking to them, Kṛṣṇa was still smiling, and in this way He stood valiantly upon the wrestling dais.
