yathā –
varām adhyāsīnas taṭa-bhuvam avaṣṭambha-rucibhiḥ
kadambaiḥ prālambaṁ pravalita-vilambaṁ viracayan |
prapannāyām agre mihira-duhitus tīrtha-padavīṁ
kuraṅgī-netrāyāṁ madhu-ripur apāṅgaṁ vikirati ||258||
Translation
While Kṛṣṇa was sitting on the bank of the Yamunā, tarrying there on the pretext of making a long garland of golden kadamba flowers, Rādhā arrived at a ghāṭa on the river. He threw a glance from the corner of His eye at the doe-eyed Rādhā.
Purport (Jiva Goswami)
Avaṣṭambha means golden. Kṛṣṇa was making a garland, which was already long (prālambam), extremely long (pravalita-vilambam). With that pretext, Kṛṣṇa delayed moving from the bank of the Yamunā. Another version of the verse is not too suitable.
Purport (Nectar of Devotion)
An example of Kṛṣṇa’s pleasing nature is described as follows: “One day while Kṛṣṇa was awaiting the arrival of Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī by the bank of the Yamunā, He began to make a garland of kadamba flowers. In the meantime, Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī appeared there, and at that time Murāri [Kṛṣṇa], the enemy of Mura, glanced over Rādhārāṇī very sweetly.”
