atha tulasī, yathā bilvamaṅgale [Note: Not in present editions of the work.] –
ayi paṅkaja-netra-mauli-māle
tulasī-maṣjari kiṣcid arthayāmi |
avabodhaya pārtha-sārathes tvaṁ
caraṇābja-śaraṇābhilāṣiṇaṁ mām ||381||
Translation
An example of tulasī, from Kṛṣṇa-karṇāmṛta: O tulasī bud from lotus-eyed Kṛṣṇa’s chaplet! I make one prayer to you. Inform the chariot driver of Arjuna that I desire the shelter of His lotus feet.
Purport (Jiva Goswami)
Avabodhaya pārtha-sāratheḥ means avabodhaya pārtha-sārathim (“Inform Pārtha-sārathi”). Arthayāmi means “I pray.” This is in the parasmaipada (though the object of the action is the self, and therefore ātmanepada would be more correct) because verbs such as cur can be conjugated either as parasmaipada or atmanepada with the same meaning, according to the rules of the grammatical textbook called Pārāyaṇa.

Kṛṣṇa's Favorite Plant: Tulasī
Lord Kṛṣṇa is very fond of tulasī leaves and buds. Because tulasī buds are usually offered up to the lotus feet of Kṛṣṇa, a devotee once prayed to the tulasī buds to give him some information about the lotus feet of the Lord. The devotee expected that the tulasī buds would know something about the glories of Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa’s lotus feet.
