bahir antaś ca vikṣobha-vidhāyitvād ataḥ sphuṭam |
proktānubhāvatāmīṣāṁ bhāvatā ca manīṣibhiḥ ||20||
Translation
Because of this, the sāttvika-bhāvas produce intense disturbance both externally and internally. The wise call the disturbance to the body (external), the anubhāva aspect of the sāttvika-bhāva, and the disturbance to the heart (internal), the vyabhicāri aspect of the sāttvika-bhāva.
Purport (Jiva Goswami)
Because of what has been explained (ataḥ), there are manifest strong (sphuṭam) disturbances externally and internally. This distinguishes the sāttvika-bhāvas from the anubhāvas which are called udbhāsvaras, affecting the body only. Bhāvatā in the verse refers to the vyabhicāri aspect of the sāttvika-bhāvas.
Purport (Nectar of Devotion)
These symptoms are sometimes manifested internally and sometimes externally. The pure devotee always feels such symptomatic expressions within himself, but being afraid of outsiders he does not generally manifest them externally.
