Translation
Another example of stambha arising from astonishment: Seeing that Govardhana Mountain, touching the sky, was held up by the hand of the small child, the inhabitants of Vraja became immobile like figures in a painting.
Purport (Jiva Goswami)
Citrārpita means that they became unable to use their senses, like painted pictures. Citrāyamāṇa (being like pictures) is an alternate version of the phrase.
Purport (Nectar of Devotion)
Also, when the residents of Vraja found that Kṛṣṇa had lifted Govardhana Hill with His left hand, they became stunned.
