Verse Text
bhayād, yathā –
kutukād abhimanyu-veṣiṇaṁ
harim ākruśya girā pragalbhayā |
viditākṛtir ākulaḥ kṣaṇād
ajani svinna-tanuḥ sa raktakaḥ ||30||
Translation
From Fear: Kṛṣṇa one time put on the dress of Abhimanyu for fun. His servant, Raktaka, thinking that He was Abhimanyu, called out to Him using impudent words. After understanding that He was actually Kṛṣṇa, he became every frightened and for some time became covered with perspiration.
Purport (Jiva Goswami)
Abhimanyu, one of the cowherd men, was the purported husband of Rādhā. However, Bhāgavatam says:
nāsūyan khalu kṛṣṇāya mohitās tasya māyayā
manyamānāḥ sva-pārśva-sthān svān svān dārān vrajaukasaḥ
The cowherd men, bewildered by Kṛṣṇa’s illusory potency, thought their wives had remained home at their sides. Thus they did not harbor any jealous feelings against Him. SB 10.33.37
According to this hint, it should be accepted that Abhimanyu was a creation of the Lord’s māyā, in the likeness of a husband. Raktaka was one of the servants of Kṛṣṇa of the same age.
Purport (Nectar of Devotion)
Perspiration caused by fearfulness was exhibited by Raktaka, one of the servants of Kṛṣṇa. One day Kṛṣṇa dressed Himself just like Abhimanyu, the husband of Rādhārāṇī. Abhimanyu did not like Rādhārāṇī’s association with Kṛṣṇa, and therefore when Raktaka saw Kṛṣṇa in the dress of Abhimanyu and thus mistook His identity, he began to strongly rebuke Him. As soon as Raktaka finally understood that it was Kṛṣṇa in the dress of Abhimanyu, he began perspiring. This perspiration was caused by fearfulness.
