Verse Text
bhīter, yathā –
rakṣite vraja-kule bakāriṇā
parvataṁ varam udasya līlayā |
kālimā bala-ripor mukhe bhavann
ūcivān manasi bhītim utthitām ||50||
Translation
From fear: When the inhabitants of Vraja were protected by Kṛṣṇa, the enemy of Baka, as He lifted the huge mountain casually, the face of Indra turned black. This indicated the fear in his mind.
Purport (Jiva Goswami)
Kālimā (black) means “turning black” in the context. Bala-ripoḥ means “of Indra the enemy of Bala.” This change of color indicated (ūcivān) the fear which arose (utthitām) in his mind.

Similarly, Indra’s face changed color when he saw that Kṛṣṇa was protecting all the denizens of Vraja by lifting Govardhana Hill.
