Verse Text

dhūmāyitās te jvalitā dīptā uddīpta-saṁjṣitāḥ | vṛddhiṁ yathottaraṁ yāntaḥ sāttvikāḥ syuś catur-vidhāḥ ||63||

Translation

The sāttvika-bhāvas are of four types when they attain increasing degrees of intensity: dhūmāyita (smoky), jvalita (luminous); dīpta (brilliant); uddīpta (very brilliant).

Purport (Nectar of Devotion)

These transcendental ecstatic symptoms gradually develop, and in the course of such development they are sometimes called smoky, sometimes called blazing, and sometimes called shining.
