atha (23) matiḥ –
śāstrādīnāṁ vicārottham artha-nirdhāraṇaṁ matiḥ ||140||
Translation
Ascertaining a meaning after consulting scripture is called mati. [Note: Conclusions are drawn in vitarka as well, but not through reference to scripture.]
