atha avaraḥ –
rasa-dvayasyāpy aṅgatvam agacchann avaro mataḥ ||213||
Translation
When the vyabhicāri-bhāva is not a component of either a primary or secondary rasa (does not nourish the rasa), it is called an inferior, dependent vyabhicāri-bhāva. [Note: Both superior and inferior dependent vyabhicāri-bhāvas are however directly caused by a rati of some sort. The superior type arise directly from primary or secondary ratis and the inferior type arises from a rati neither primary or secondary.]
