yathā vā –
tvayi rahasi milantyāṁ sambhrama-nyāsa-bhugnāpy
uṣasi sakhi tavālī mekhalā paśya bhāti |
iti vivṛta-rahasye mādhave kuṣcita-bhrūr
dṛśam anṛju kirantī rādhikā vaḥ punātu || atrāsūyotpattiḥ | ||234||
Translation
Appearance of asūyā: O Viśakhā! When you came in the morning to the bower, your friend Rādhā appeared splendid, even though her belt was crooked from her haste in tying it around her waist. When Kṛṣṇa revealed that confidential matter, Rādhā sent a crooked glance at Him with a frown on her brow. May that Rādhā purify you!
Purport (Jiva Goswami)
This is an example of utpatti of envy (asūyā). By joking in this manner with Rādhā’s associates, this gopī is hinting at her own superior position, arising from a relationship of love-hate with Kṛṣṇa.
Purport (Nectar of Devotion)
Kṛṣṇa once told Rādhārāṇī, “My dear friend, when You tried to meet Me alone in the morning, Your friend Mekhalā remained hungry with envy. Just look at her!” When Kṛṣṇa was joking with Rādhārāṇī in this way, Rādhārāṇī moved Her beautiful eyebrows crossly. Rūpa Gosvāmī prays that everyone may become blessed by this movement of Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī’s eyebrows. This is an instance of the generation of malice in ecstatic love of Kṛṣṇa.
