vātajo, yathā –
pāṁśu-prārabdha-ketau bṛhad-aṭavi-kuṭonmāthi-śauṭīrya-puṣje
bhāṇḍīroddaṇḍa-śākhā-bhuja-tatiṣu gate tāṇḍavācārya-caryām |
vāta-vrāte karīṣaṅ-kaṣatara-śikhare śārkare jhātkariṣṇau
kṣauṇyām aprekṣya putraṁ vrajapati-gṛhiṇī paśya sambambhramīti ||69||
Translation
Āvega arising from wind: When Tṛṇāvarta, making a terrifying sound, endowed with great strength to uproot large forest trees, spreading clouds of dust, carrying cow dung, dust, grass and stones, began to sway the branches of the Bhāṇḍira tree, Yaśodā, the wife of Nanda, not seeing her son Kṛṣṇa on the ground, became overcome with great confusion.
Purport (Jiva Goswami)
This is a description of the actions of rākṣasas. Śārkara means sand and stones together. It means “filled with gravel.” It is derived from śarkara. By lengthening the “a” it takes a possessive
meaning “filled with gravel.”
Purport (Nectar of Devotion)
The whirlwind demon known as Tṛṇāvarta once carried Kṛṣṇa off from the ground and blew Him around, along with some very big trees. At that time, Mother Yaśodā could not see her son, and she was so disturbed that she began to walk this way and that. This is an instance of emotion caused by severe wind.
