tathātve rāma-pādābja-prema-kallola-vāridhiḥ |
prītyā rāmāyaṇaṁ nityaṁ hanumān śṛṇuyāt katham ||127||
Translation
If Rāmāyaṇa is a cause of grief, why should Hanumān, who is an ocean filled with the waves of Rāma’s lotus feet, continually hear Rāmāyaṇa with pleasure?

In this verse the author proves that there must be present a primary rasa in the bhāvaka-bhaktas by showing the impossibility of its absence. If it were absent, then there would only be grief. If it is a cause of grief (tathātve), why should Hanumān constantly hear the Rāmāyaṇa with pleasure?

Otherwise, why would Hanumān, the great devotee of Lord Rāmacandra, read daily about the activities of Lord Rāmacandra, as described in the Rāmāyaṇa itself? The fact is that in any of the above-mentioned twelve transcendental humors of devotional service, everything is transcendentally pleasing.
