jāgaryā, yathā –
virahān mura-dviṣaś ciraṁ vidhurāṅge parikhinna-cetasi |
kṣaṇadāḥ kṣaṇa-dāyitojjhitā bahulāśve bahulās tadābhavan ||120||
Translation
An example of sleeplessness in viyoga: King Bahulāśva, in long separation from Kṛṣṇa, became distressed in body and mind. Many of his nights gave up their pleasurable nature of sleep.
Purport (Jiva Goswami)
Kṣana-dā (giving pleasure) means the night, but implies the day also. Thus for many days and nights, he continued in distress. Kṣaṇa-dā can also mean that which gives pleasure. Thus many nights gave up their pleasant nature of allowing sleep.
Purport (Nectar of Devotion)
The King of Bahula, although very comfortably situated in his palace, began to think the nights very long and distressing because of his separation from Kṛṣṇa.
