Verse Text

aśivatvān na ghaṭate bhakte kutrāpy asau mṛtiḥ | kṣobhakatvād viyogasya jāta-prāyeti kathyate ||128||

Translation

Because of its inauspiciousness, death is impossible for these devotees. When there are death-like symptoms caused by extreme disturbance due to separation from Kṛṣṇa, it is called mṛti.

Purport (Jiva Goswami)

Death can never take place at all (kutrāpi na ghaṭate) for these devotees (siddhas), because it is inauspicious (aśivatvāt). Anything inauspicious is not possible for them. Death however is described for the sādhaka-bhakta, in such statements as “The very faithful give up their lives in Mathurā.” For the siddha-bhakta, because of the disturbance caused by separation (viyogasya kṣobhakatvāt) a near-death condition occurs. This is called mṛti.
