iti tāvad asādhīyo yat purāṇeṣu keṣucit |
śrīmad-bhāgavate caiṣa prakaṭo dṛśyate rasaḥ ||140||
Translation
Their opinion is unfounded, because in many purāṇas and in the Bhāgavatam, this dāsya-rasa is clearly seen.
Purport (Jiva Goswami)
Let the materialistic persons have their opinion. The view previously described about the dāsa-bhaktas is correct, because it is in accordance with the sages who have written scriptures about rasa. Thus the reply is given in this verse. Tāvat is an indeclinable used to indicate what was just said. And though they say this (iti tāvad), it is not secure (asādhīyaḥ). It is not very secure, because of their inability to take possession of the rasas of Bhāgavatam. The reason is given stated with yat (because). Kṣīrasvāmī says that iti means “in that view.” Āpiśali, a grammarian, says it means “what was shown in this and that place.” Thus he also accepts the same meaning of iti.
Purport (Nectar of Devotion)
Some persons are reluctant to accept this level of devotional service as actual bhakti-yoga, and in some of the Purāṇas also this servitorship in devotional service to Kṛṣṇa is not accepted as the actual bhakti-yoga system. But Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam has clearly indicated that the servitor relationship with Kṛṣṇa is the actual beginning of yoga realization.
