Verse Text
eteṣāṁ pravaraḥ śrīmān uddhavaḥ prema-viklavaḥ ||35||
Translation
Among these pāriṣadas, Uddhava, controlled by prema, is the best.
Purport (Jiva Goswami)
Prema-viklava means “controlled by prema.” Klava means distress according to the grammarian Vopadeva. And viśeṣya-nighna-varga of the Amara-kośa says viklavo vihvalah syāt: viklava means agitation. Thus, viklavate means “to be agitated” according to Kṣīrasvāmī. It means “to be overcome with fear or other emotions” according to other commentaries.
iti viklavitaṁ tāsāṁ śrutvā yogeśvareśvaraḥ
prahasya sa-dayaṁ gopīr ātmārāmo ’py arīramat
Smiling upon hearing these despondent words from the gopīs, Lord Kṛṣṇa, the supreme master of all masters of mystic yoga, mercifully enjoyed with them, although He is self-satisfied. SB 10.29.39
In that verse viklavitam means “words under the sway of lamentation” according to Śrīdhara Svāmī.
Purport (Nectar of Devotion)
Out of the many close associates of Lord Kṛṣṇa, Uddhava is considered the best.
