yathā –
pralamba-ripur īśvaro bhavatu kā kṛtis tena me
kumāra-makara-dhvajād api na kiṣcid āste phalam |
kim anyad aham uddhataḥ prabhu-kṛpā-kaṭākṣa-śriyā
priyā pariṣad-agrimāṁ na gaṇayāmi bhāmām api ||54||
Translation
Balarāma, enemy of Pralamba, may be the Supreme Lord, but what use do I have for him? What can I gain from the prince Pradyumna? Since I have been elevated by the wealth of Kṛṣṇa’s glance of mercy, I do not give regard even to Satyabhāmā, the head of all Kṛṣṇa’s followers.
Purport (Jiva Goswami)
This should be understood as a display of external pride because of a special intensity of love, though the person has actual internal affection for the persons mentioned. It would be disagreeable if this mood were real. This should be understood in the next example also. It will also be explained in verse 61. This is a private conversation of a vīra-bhakta to a somewhat close associate of Satyabhāmā. Such frank language showing Kṛṣṇa’s superiority over Balarāma and Satyabhāmā would be embarrassing for Kṛṣṇa to hear directly.
Purport (Nectar of Devotion)
A vīra associate once expressed his pride, declaring, “Lord Baladeva may be a great enemy of Pralambāsura, but I have nothing to worry about from Him. And as far as Pradyumna is concerned, I have nothing to take from him, because he is simply a boy. Therefore I do not expect anything from anyone else. I simply expect the favorable glance of Kṛṣṇa upon me, and so I am not even afraid of Satyabhāmā, who is so dear to Kṛṣṇa.”
