Verse Text

klamo, yathā skānde – aśoṣayan manas tasya mlāpayan mukha-paṅkajam | ādhis tad-virahe deva grīṣme sara ivāṁśumān ||74||

Translation

An example of klama (also called mlāni or glāni—depletion of energy), from Skanda Purāṇa:

Purport (Jiva Goswami)

O Lord, as the sun dries up the lake in summer, the pain in the mind caused by separation from You dries up the mind and withers the lotus face of the devotee.

Purport (Nectar of Devotion)

In the Skanda Purāṇa a devotee tells Lord Kṛṣṇa, “My dear Lord, as the sun evaporates all the water on the ground by its scorching heat, so my mental state has dried away the luster of my face and body, due to separation from You.” This is an example of withering in ecstatic love.
