nirvedo, yathā –
dhanyāḥ sphurati tava sūrya karāḥ sahasraṁ
ye sarvadā yadupateḥ padayoḥ patanti |
bandhyo dṛśāṁ daśa-śatī dhriyate mamāsau
dūre muhūrtam api yā na vilokate tam ||75||
Translation
Nirveda (self-deprecation): O sun! The thousands of rays coming from you are fortunate, because they fall at the lotus feet of the lord of the Yadus. But all my thousand eyes are useless, because they have not seen Him even from far off, and not even for a second.
Purport (Jiva Goswami)
Dhṛiyate means “are situated.” A thousand of my eyes (daśa-śatī dṛśām) are rendered (dhriyate) useless (bandhyaḥ). Api should be supplied for both dūre (far) and muhūrtam (a moment).
Purport (Nectar of Devotion)
An expression of disappointment was made by Indra, the King of heaven. When he saw the sun-god, Indra told him, “My dear sun-god, your sunshine is very glorious because it reaches unto the lotus feet of Lord Kṛṣṇa, the master of the Yadu dynasty. I have thousands of eyes, but they have proved to be useless because not even for a moment are they able to see the lotus feet of the Lord.”
