yathā vā –
keśavasya karuṇā-lave ’pi ced
bāḍavo ’pi kila ṣaḍavo mama |
asya yady adayatā kuśa-sthalī
pūrṇa-siddhir api me kuśasthalī ||89||
Translation
Another example: If Keśava shows even a little mercy to me, the vāḍaba fire will be like a sweet drink. If He does not show me mercy, even Dvārakā, full of wealth and power, will be like a piece of grassy earth.
Purport (Jiva Goswami)
This verse shows results of attaining and not attaining mercy. Ṣāḍava means a type of sweet drink. Kuśa-sthalī means Dvārakā, but also means a place covered with kuśa grass.
Purport (Nectar of Devotion)
One devotee has confidently expressed this opinion: “If a drop of Lord Kṛṣṇa’s mercy can be bestowed upon me, then I shall feel completely carefree, even in the midst of a fire or an ocean. But if I become bereft of His causeless mercy, then even if I became the King of Dvārakā, I would be simply an object for pinpricks.”
