Verse Text
yathā nārasiṁhe –
cakāra meghe tad-varṇe bahu-māna-ratiṁ nṛpaḥ |
pakṣapātena tan-nāmni mṛge padme ca tad-dṛśi ||97||
Translation
An example of longing before meeting, from Narasiṁha Purāṇa: King Ikṣvāku, because of his extreme attachment to the Lord, developed great rati for the black cloud because of its color, the kṛṣna-sāra deer because of its name, and the lotus which resembled Kṛṣṇa’s eyes.
Purport (Jiva Goswami)
The king is Ikṣvāku. By great attachment to the Lord (pakṣapātena) he became attracted to the kṛṣṇa-sāra deer, merely because of its name, and to the lotus because it resembled the eyes of the Lord.
Purport (Nectar of Devotion)
In the Nṛsiṁha Purāṇa there is a statement about King Ikṣvāku which illustrates this state of ecstatic love. Because of his great affection for Kṛṣṇa, King Ikṣvāku became greatly attached to the black cloud, the black deer, the deer’s black eyes and the lotus flower, which is always compared to the eyes of the Lord.
