Verse Text
vibhāvādyais tu vātsalyaṁ sthāyī puṣṭim upāgataḥ |
eṣa vatsala-nāmātra prokto bhakti-raso budhaiḥ ||1||
Translation
When vatsala-sthāyi-bhāva is nourished by vibhāva and the other elements, it is called vatsala-bhakti-rasa by the wise.

When ecstatic love develops into the relationship of parenthood and becomes steadily established, the relationship is called vātsalya-rasa.
