yathā vā –
vinyasta-śruti-pālir adya muralī-nisvāna-śuśrūṣā
bhūyaḥ prasrava-varṣiṇī dviguṇitotkaṇṭhā pradoṣodaye |
gehād aṅganam aṅganāt punar asau gehaṁ viśanty ākulā
govindasya muhur vrajendra-gṛhiṇī panthānam ālokate ||55||
Translation
Another example: Today, in order to hear the sound of the flute, Yaśodā has pricked up her ears. But as evening approached, her longing doubled in intensity. Milk flowed from her breasts, and repeatedly she went out of the house into the yard and then reentered the house. In complete anxiety, she constantly gazed at the path by which Govinda would return.
Purport (Jiva Goswami)
Pāli means the edge of the ear according to the Viśva-kośa. Here it indicates the whole ear. Yaśodā directed her whole ear to listening for the sound of the flute.
Purport (Nectar of Devotion)
A similar statement is there in connection with Mother Yaśodā when she was too anxious to hear the sound of Kṛṣṇa’s flute, expecting Him back from the pasturing ground. Because she thought that it was getting very late, her anxiety to hear the sound of Kṛṣṇa’s flute became doubled, and milk began to flow from her breast. In that condition she was sometimes going within the house, sometimes coming out of the house. She was constantly looking to see if Govinda was coming back along the road.
