Verse Text
nivṛttānupayogitvād durūhatvād ayaṁ rasaḥ |
rahasyatvāc ca saṁkṣipya vitatāṇgo vilikhyate ||2||
Translation
Though this rasa has many components, it will be described in summary because it is difficult to describe, because it is very confidential, and because it is unsuitable for those who do not have the taste for madhura-rasa--since it appears similar to the rasa of mundane love,
Purport (Jiva Goswami)
Nivṛttānupayogitvād means “because of lack of qualification of those who are without taste (nivṛtta) for this rasa related to the Lord, caused by their equating it with material love.”
Purport (Nectar of Devotion)
Although such conjugal feelings are not at all material, there is some similarity between this spiritual love and material activities. Therefore, persons who are interested only in material activities are unable to understand this spiritual conjugal love, and these devotional reciprocations appear very mysterious to them. Rūpa Gosvāmī therefore describes conjugal love very briefly.
