yathā śrī-daśame –
yathā vinidrā yac cittā rukmiṇī kamalekṣaṇā |
tathāham api tac-citto nidrāṁ ca na labhe niśi |
vedāhaṁ rukmiṇyā dveṣān mamodvāho nivāritaḥ ||28||
Translation
An example from the Tenth Canto: Just as Rukmiṇī’s mind is fixed on Me, My mind is fixed on her. I can’t even sleep at night. I know that Rukmī, out of envy, has forbidden our marriage. SB 10.53.2
Purport (Jiva Goswami)
The pūrva-rāga of the women of Vraja for Kṛṣṇa has been described elaborately by Śukadeva, who is their mouth-piece, in the chapter starting with the verse ayati te ’dhikaṁ janmanā vrajaḥ (SB 10.31), with such verses as the following:
śarad-udāśaye sādhu-jāta-sat-sarasijodara-śrī-muṣā dṛśā
surata-nātha te ’śulka-dāsikā vara-da nighnato neha kiṁ vadhaḥ
O Lord of love, the beauty of Your glance excels the whorl of the finest, most perfectly formed lotus within the autumn pond. O bestower of benedictions, You are killing the maidservants who have given themselves to You freely, without any price. Isn’t this murder? SB 10.31.2
With the intention of indicating that already so many verses of the gopīs’ pūrva-rāga are available, the author mentions just the pūrva-rāga of Rukmiṇī, which has been described once.
Purport (Nectar of Devotion)
In Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, Tenth Canto, Fifty-third Chapter, verse 2, Kṛṣṇa told the messenger brāhmaṇa who came from Rukmiṇī, “My dear brāhmaṇa, just like Rukmiṇī I cannot sleep at night, and My mind is always fixed on her. I know that her brother Rukmī is against Me and that due to his persuasion My marriage with her has been cancelled.” This is another instance of preliminary attraction.
