asyā ratiḥ –
narmoktau mama nirmitoru-paramānandotsavāyām api
śrotrasyānta-taṭīm api sphuṭam anādhāya sthitodyan-mukhī |
rādhā lāghavam apy anādara-girāṁ bhaṅgībhir ātanvatī
maitrī-gauravato ’py asau śata-guṇāṁ mat-prītim evādadhe ||9||
Translation
Rādhā’s rati: I derive a hundred times more delight from Rādhā, than from respectful friendship, even when she does not hear my jokes filled with the highest pleasure, and instead, looking skyward, ignores those jokes with clever words which indicate her contempt.
Purport (Jiva Goswami)
Visibly (sphuṭam) the words do not enter her ears, but without Kṛṣṇa’s seeing, those words immediately enter her ears. She raises her eyes upwards (udyan-mukhī), out of lover’s pride. Narmoktau is connected the later phrase lāghavam apy ātanvatī. The meaning is “she does not pay attention to my joking words.” Bhaṅgibhiḥ (by wit or clever, deceptive words) indicates by suggestion that she actually takes the words to heart.
Purport (Nectar of Devotion)
Kṛṣṇa’s attraction for Rādhārāṇī is described by Kṛṣṇa Himself thus: “When I create some joking phrases in order to enjoy the beauty of Rādhārāṇī, Rādhārāṇī hears these joking words with great attention; but by Her bodily features and counterwords She neglects Me. And I even possess unlimited pleasure by Her neglect of Me, for She becomes so beautiful that She increases My pleasure one hundred times.”
