yathā –
mad-vaśena puraḥ-sthito harir asau putro ’ham evāsmi te
paśyety acyuta-jalpa-viśvasitayā saṁrambha-rajyad-dṛśā |
mām eti skhalad-akṣare jaṭilayā vyākruśya niṣkāsite
putre prāṅgataḥ sakhī-kulam abhūd dantāṁśu-dhautādharam ||19||
Translation
An example: “O mother! I am your son Abhimanyu. Kṛṣṇa is coming here wearing my clothing.” Believing Kṛṣṇa’s words, Jaṭilā, her eyes red with anger, began shouting and driving her real son from the yard, as he tried to say “Mother! Mother!” The lips of Rādhā’s friends became gleaming white with the luster of their teeth.
Purport (Jiva Goswami)
These are the words of Kṛṣṇa, to Jaṭilā, the mother of Abhimanyu. Abhimanyu took himself to be Rādhā’s husband. Kṛṣṇa came to the house in Abhimanyu’s dress when He saw that Abhimanyu was still far away. Abhimanyu did not see that Kṛṣṇa was dressed in his clothing. Niṣkāsite means “Abhimanyu was driven away from the house.” He went away because he feared that she may be crazy, and went to get some friends.
Purport (Nectar of Devotion)
One day Abhimanyu, the so-called husband of Rādhārāṇī, was returning home, and at that time he could not see that Kṛṣṇa was there in his house. Kṛṣṇa immediately changed His dress to look exactly like Abhimanyu and approached Abhimanyu’s mother, Jaṭilā, addressing her thus: “My dear mother, I am your real son Abhimanyu, but just see—Kṛṣṇa, dressed up like me, is coming before you!” Jaṭilā, the mother of Abhimanyu, immediately believed that Kṛṣṇa was her own son and thus became very angry at her real son who was coming home. She began to drive away her real son, who was crying, “Mother! Mother! What are you doing?” Seeing this incident, all the girlfriends of Rādhārāṇī, who were present there, began to smile, and a portion of their teeth was visible. This is an instance of hasita smiling.
