yathā –
muṣāṇa dadhi meduraṁ viphalam antarā śaṅkase
sa-niḥśvasita-ḍambaraṁ jaṭilayātra nidrāyate |
iti bruvati keśave prakaṭa-śīrṇa-danta-sthalaṁ
kṛtaṁ hasitam utsvanaṁ kapaṭa-suptayā vṛddhayā ||21||
Translation
An example: “My friends! Steal the thick yogurt. Why are you uselessly showing fear in this house? Jaṭilā is sleeping with loud breathing.” When Kṛṣṇa said this, the old lady, only pretending to be sleeping, laughed audibly, showing her worn teeth.
Purport (Jiva Goswami)
Her pretending to be asleep is evident from the description of her smiling and laughing. Suptayāpy etayā (same meaning) is also seen instead of suptayā vṛddhayā.

One day when Kṛṣṇa was engaged in stealing butter and yogurt in the house of Jaṭilā, He assured His friends, “My dear friends, I know that this old lady is now sleeping very profoundly, because she is breathing very deeply. Let us silently steal butter and yogurt without making any disturbance.” But the old lady, Jaṭilā, was not sleeping; so she could not contain her smiling, and her teeth immediately became distinctly visible. This is an instance of vihasita smiling.
