yathā vā –
kva stanya-gandhi-vadanendur asau śiśus te
govardhanaḥ śikhara-ruddha-ghanaḥ kva cāyam |
bhoḥ paśya savya-kara-kandukitācalendraḥ
khelann iva sphurati hanta kim indra-jālam ||8||
Translation
Another example: O Yaśodā! See here your little son with the moon-like face slightly smelling of milk! And see here Govardhana, whose summit pierces the clouds! See, with His left hand, He holds the king of mountains if it were just play. Is this some magic?
Purport (Jiva Goswami)
Stanya-gandhi with the “i” at the end of the compound indicates “slightly smelling of breast milk.” Acalendra (king of mountains) refers to Govardhana, since that was previously mentioned. Kandukitaṁ tam adriṁ kurvan mudaṁ vahati (he carries the mountain casually like a toy) is found instead of kandukitācalendraḥ khelann iva sphurati.
Purport (Nectar of Devotion)
One of the friends of Mother Yaśodā said, “Yaśodā, just see the fun! On the one hand, there is your child, who is always captivated by sucking the milk from your breast, and on the other hand there is the great Govardhana Hill, which can obstruct the passing of the clouds. But still, just see how wonderful it is that this great Govardhana Hill is resting on the finger of your child’s left hand, just as though it were a toy. Is this not very mysterious?” This statement is another example of astonishment in devotional service by direct perception.
