yathā hari-bhakti-sudhodaye (7.28) –
sthānābhilāṣī tapasi sthito 'haṁ
tvāṁ prāptavān deva-munīndra-guhyam |
kācaṁ vicinvann api divya-ratnaṁ
svāmin kṛtārtho 'smi varaṁ na yāce ||44||
Translation
From Hari-bhakti-sudhodaya: O Lord! I desired the king’s throne, but I attained You, who are hidden from even the chief devatās and sages. As a person on searching for glass and attaining jewels no longer desires the glass, I, having attained You, have become successful, and do not desire anything else.
Purport (Jiva Goswami)
These are the words of Dhruva. They do not spring from full realization of the sweet aspect of the Lord. These words arose from the touch of the Lord’s conch. However, it is evident that gradually he obtained that realization. [Note: Thus, his words are those of a sādhaka.]

In the Hari-bhakti-sudhodaya there is another example, forwarded by Mahārāja Dhruva. He says there, “My dear Lord, I have practiced austerities and penances because I was desiring to receive something from You, but in exchange You have allowed me to see You, who are never visible even to the great sages and saintly persons. I had been searching out some pieces of broken glass, but instead I have found the most valuable jewel. I am therefore fully satisfied, my Lord. I do not wish to ask anything more from Your Lordship.”
