Verse Text

Translation
If Mayūradhvaja were aware that the brāhmaṇa was actually Kṛṣṇa, he would not have displayed such compassion. Without the display of compassion, he would instead be a clear example of a dāna-vīra, one who gives to the Lord in surrender.
Purport (Jiva Goswami)
Without the Lord disguising Himself (as a helpless brāhmaṇa), Mayūradhvaja would not have manifested compassion (since he would know that the Lord is not helpless).
Purport (Nectar of Devotion)
He had full knowledge of the Supreme Personality of Godhead in the garb of a brāhmaṇa, and he is known as the perfect dāna-vīra, or renouncer.
