Verse Text
suhṛd-varo, yathā –
sakhi-prakara-mārgaṇān agaṇitān kṣipan sarvatas
tathādya laguḍaṁ kramād bhramayati sma dāmā kṛtī |
amaṁsta racita-stutir vrajapates tanujo ’py amuṁ
samṛddha-pulako yathā laguḍa-paṣjarāntaḥ-sthitam ||8||
Translation
Fighting with His best friends: Skilful Śrīdāma stopped the countless arrows with leather tips fired by all his friends by whirling his stick around. The son of Nanda, with hairs standing on end, praised him, because it appeared that Śrīdāma was enclosed in a cage made by the whirling stick.

Mārgaṇān means “arrows with leather tips which filled up quivers.”

They prepared some arrows for mock-fighting, and Kṛṣṇa began to throw his arrows at Śrīdāmā. Śrīdāmā began to block these arrows by whirling his pole, and by Śrīdāmā’s chivalrous activities, Kṛṣṇa became very satisfied.
