Verse Text
yathā vidagdha-mādhave (2.37) –
antaḥ-kleśa-kalaṅkitāḥ kila vayaṁ yāmo 'dya yāmyāṁ purīṁ
nāyaṁ vaṣcana-saṣcaya-praṇayinaṁ hāsaṁ tathāpy ujjhati |
asmin sampuṭite gabhīra-kapaṭair ābhīra-pallī-viṭe
hā medhāvini rādhike tava kathaṁ premā garīyān abhūt ||4||
Translation
From Vidagdha-mādhava: Today we will die, being afflicted by such great suffering. Kṛṣṇa cannot stop His cheating smiles. O intelligent Rādhā! Why were you so much in love with the lusty cowherd Kṛṣṇa covered with so much deceit?

On this occasion, Rādhā was greatly fearful because Kṛṣṇa put on a show of indifference in order to test her.

In Vidagdha-mādhava, Second Act, verse 37, Lalitā-gopī expressed her anger, which was caused by Kṛṣṇa, when she addressed Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī thus: “My dear friend, my inner desires have been polluted. Therefore I shall go to the place of Yamarāja. But I am sorry to see that Kṛṣṇa has still not given up His smiling over cheating You. I do not know how You could repose all Your loving propensities upon this lusty young boy from the neighborhood of the cowherds.”
