Verse Text

tatraiva prītasyādbhuta-bībhatsayoś ca, yathā – hitvāsmin piśitopanaddha-rudhira-klinne mudaṁ vigrahe prīty-utsikta-manāḥ kadāham asakṛd-dustarka-caryāspadam | āsīnaṁ puraṭāsanopari paraṁ brahmāmbuda-śyāmalaṁ seviṣye cala-cāru-cāmara-marut-saṣcāra cāturyataḥ || atra mukhya eva mukhyasya gauṇayoś ca | ||22||

Translation

An example where śānta-rasa is the aṅgī and dāsya-rasa (primary rasa) as well adbhuta and bībhatsa-rasas (both secondary rasas) are the aṅgas: Having rejected the bliss of this body composed of flesh and moistened by blood, my mind being filled with affection, when will I, skillfully waving an attractive cāmara, serve the dark-complexioned param brahma, who is seated calmly on a golden throne and who performs inconceivable actions?

Purport (Jiva Goswami)

Asakṛd-dustarka-caryāspadam (constantly performing inconceivable actions) indicates adbhuta-rasa. (Bībhatsa is represented by disgust with the material body.) As in the case of desiring to massage the feet of the Lord in verse 20, the desire to serve the Lord by fanning Him with a cāmara (dāsya-rasa) is actually a desire to experience the excellence of the Lord’s fragrance. This is similar to Sanaka and the other Kumāras who attained bliss by smelling the fragrance of the Lord’s lotus feet mixed with tulasī.

Purport (Nectar of Devotion)

There is a similar statement by a devotee as follows: “I shall now begin my service of fanning the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Śrī Kṛṣṇa, who is seated on a golden throne. He is the supreme Para-brahman in His eternal transcendental form with a cloudy blackish complexion. Now I shall give up my affection for my material body, which is nothing but a bunch of flesh and blood.” Herein also there is a combination of servitude and ghastliness, where the ecstasy of servitude is taken as the whole and the ecstasy of ghastliness is taken as the part.
