Verse Text

kiṁ ca— āsvādodreka-hetutvam aṅgasyāṅgatvam aṅgini | tad vinā tasya sampāto vaiphalyāyaiva kalpate ||51||

Translation

Moreover, the other rasas assume the role of aṅga only in order to increase the taste. Except for this, their appearance would be useless.

Purport (Jiva Goswami)

Other rasas assuming the role of aṅga in relation to the main rasa is for the purpose of increasing taste, and for no other purpose. This is explained in the next line: without that purpose, their appearance becomes useless.

Purport (Nectar of Devotion)

At such times of slight appearance, no consideration is given to it; when one is eating some palatable dishes, if one also eats a small blade of grass he will not taste it, nor will he care to distinguish what its taste is like. SKIP1
