Verse Text
āśraya-bhinnatve, yathā –
vijayinam ajitaḥ vilokya raṅga-
sthala-bhuvi sambhṛta-sāṁyugīna-līlam |
paśupa-savayasāṁ vapūṁṣi bhejuḥ
pulaka-kulaṁ dviṣatāṁ tu kālimānam ||
atra vīra-bhayānakayoḥ | ||73||
Translation
Differing āśrayas for vīra and bhayānaka-rasas: Seeing Kṛṣṇa victorious as He enacted skilful fighting pastimes in the combat arena, the hairs of all His young friends stood on end in ecstasy. However, the complexions of Kaṁsa and other enemies became black with fear.
Purport (Nectar of Devotion)
The following is a statement which describes different mellows of devotional service: “Although Kṛṣṇa was invincible to any enemy, the cowherd boys of Vṛndāvana became almost blackish with astonishment upon seeing His wonderful royal garments and His fighting feats on the Battlefield of Kurukṣetra.” In this statement, although there is a mixture of chivalrous activities and dread in devotional service, there is no perverted reflection of mellows.
