atyantābhāva evātra rateḥ khalu vivakṣitaḥ |
etasyāḥ prāg-abhāve tu śucir noparaso bhavet ||15||
Translation
The intention of the previous verse is also to point out the temporary nature of the wives’ rati (atyanta abhāvaḥ). However, madhuroparasa does not arise here solely because the rati did not exist previously. Though the fire of Cupid began to smolder in the brāhmaṇas’ wives, I suppressed my spontaneous, sweet smile and hid the restless glances in my eyes. An indescribable state of peace appeared in my mind.

Atyanta abhāva rateḥ atra means that the rati of those women with brāhmaṇa bodies did not exist in all three stages of time (past, present and future).
