Verse Text

atha anurasāḥ – bhaktādibhir vibhāvādyaiḥ kṛṣṇa-sambandha-varjitaiḥ | rasā hāsyādayaḥ sapta śāntaś cānurasā matāḥ ||33||

Translation

If the devotees as ālambanas and other elements are devoid of a relationship with Kṛṣṇa when expressing a certain rasa, then anurasa arises for the seven secondary rasas and śānta-rasa. [Note: Anurasa will not arise in the primary rasas other than śānta, because those rasas are directly related to Kṛṣṇa.]

Purport (Jiva Goswami)

Bhaktādibhiḥ (by devotees etc.) means devotees of the five types (śānta, dāsya, sakhya, vatsala and madhura). Other scriptures on rasa consider śānta to be unsuitable for this list. [Note: Thus the four types of devotees are indicated by the word bhakta and the śānta-bhakta is indicated by ādi.]
