Verse Text
tatra ādyaṁ, yathā –
vijṣāna-suṣamādhaute samādhau yad udaṣcati |
sukhaṁ dṛṣṭe tad evādya purāṇa-puruṣe tvayi ||5||
Translation
Accepting the impersonal brahman feature of the Lord: Seeing You, the ancient person, today, I have realized the bliss of impersonal brahman which arises in samādhi purified by the splendor of knowledge. [Note: This would be a distortion of the viṣaya aspect of vibhāva and distortion of the sthāyi-bhāva, though the examples in verses 5-17 are illustrations of irregular sthāyi-bhāvas.]
Purport (Nectar of Devotion)
There is the following statement by an impersonalist who had just seen Kṛṣṇa: “When a person has passed completely from all contamination of material existence, he relishes a transcendental bliss of being established in trance. But as soon as I saw You, the original Personality of Godhead, I experienced the same bliss.” This perverted reflection of mellows is called śānta-uparasa, or a perverted reflection of mixed impersonalism and personalism.
