kāścit—some; divyāḥ—women of the heavenly planets; adivyāḥ—women not from the heavenly planets; ca—and; tathā—so; tri-guṇa-vṛttayaḥ—the actions of the three modes; bhūmi—on the earth; gopyaḥ—gopīs; bhaviṣyanti—will become; puṇyaiḥ—by pious deeds; nānā-vidhaiḥ—various; kṛtaiḥ—done.

Translation

Some women from the heavenly planets, some women not from the heavenly planets, and some women acting in the three modes will, because of various kinds of pious activities, become gopīs on the earth.

yajṣāvatāraṁ ruciraṁ ruci-putraṁ divas-patim mohitāḥ pratibhāvena vīkṣya deva-jana-striyaḥ

yajṣā—as; avatāram—incarnation; ruciram—handsome; ruci-putram—the son of Ruci; divaḥ—of the heavenly planets; patim—the master; mohitāḥ—charmed; prīti-bhāvena—with love; vīkṣya—seeing; deva-jana-striyaḥ—the demigoddesses.

Translation

When the saw handsome Yajṣa-avatāra, who is the son of Ruci and the master of the heavenly planets, the demigoddesses were overcome with love for Him.

tāś ca devala-vākyena tapas tepur himācale bhaktyā paramayā tā me gopyo bhāvyā vraje vidhe

Synonyms

Translation

On Devala Muni's advice with great devotion to Me they performed austerities in the Himalayas. O Brahmā, they will become gopīs in Vraja.

antarhite bhagavati deve dhanvantarau bhuvi auṣadhyo duḥkham āpannā niṣphalā bhārate 'bhavan

antarhite—disappeared; bhagavati deve dhanvantarau—when Lord Dhanvantari; bhuvi—in the earth; auṣadhyaḥ—medicines; duḥkham—unhappiness; āpannā—attained; niṣphalā—fruitless; bhārate—in Bhārata-varṣa; abhavan—became.

Translation

When Lord Dhanvantari disappeared from the earth, all the medicines in Bhārata-varṣa became unhappy. They all became useless and ineffective.

siddhy-arthaṁ tās tapas tepuḥ striyo bhūtvā manoharāḥ catur-yuge vyatīte tu prasanno 'bhūd dhariḥ param

Synonyms

siddhi—perfection; artham—for the purpose; tāḥ—they; tapas tepuḥ—performed austerities; striyaḥ—women; bhūtvā—becoming; manoharāḥ—beautiful; catur-yuge—when the four yugas; vyatīte—had passed; tu—indeed; prasannaḥ—pleased; abhūt—became; dhariḥ—Lord Hari; param—then.

Translation

To regain their powers they transformed themselves into beautiful women and performed austerities. When four yugas had passed Lord Hari became pleased with them.

varaṁ vṛṇīta cety uktam śrutvā nāryo mahā-vane taṁ dṛṭṭvā moham āpannā ūcur bhārtā bhavātra naḥ

varam—a benediction; vṛṇīta—choose; ca—also; iti-thus; uktam—said; śrutvā—hearing; naryaḥ—the women; mahā-vane—in the great forest; tam—Him; dṛṭṭvā—seeing; moham āpannā—became enchanted; ūcuḥ—said; bhārtā—husband; bhava—become; atra—here; naḥ—of us.

Translation

Seeing the Lord in a great forest, they became completely enchanted by Him. Hearing Him say, "Please choose a benediction," they said, "Please become our husband here".

śrī-harir uvāca vṛndāvane dvāparānte latā bhūtvā manoharāḥ bhaviṣyatha striyo rāse kariṣyāmi vacaś ca vaḥ

Translation

Śrī Hari said: In Vṛndāvana, at the end of Dvāpara-yuga, you will become flowering vines and then you will change into women in the arena of the rāsa dance. I promise this to you.

Translation

The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: In Vṛndāvana they will become beautiful and very fortunate flowering-vine gopīs filled with love (for Me).

Translation

When the women of the Jālandhara country saw Lord Hari, the husband of Vṛndā, they said (to themselves), "May Lord Hari be our chosen husband".

ākāśa-vāg abhūt tāsāṁ bhajatāśu ramā-patim yathā vṛndā tathā yūyaṁ vṛndāraṇye bhaviṣyatha

Translation

Then a voice from the sky said to them, "Worship Lord Nārāyaṇa, the husband of Ramā, and in Vṛndāvana you will become like Vṛndā."

samudra-kanyāḥ śrī-matsyaṁ hariṁ dṛṭṭvā ca mohitāḥ tā hi gopyo bhaviṣyanti śrī-matsyasya varād vraje

samudra-kanyāḥ—the daughters of Varuṇa; śrī-matsyam—Śrī Matsya; harim—Lord Harim; dṛṭṭvā—having seen; ca—and; mohitāḥ—enchanted; tāḥ—they; hi—indeed; gopygopīs; bhaviṣyanti—will become; śrī-matsyasya—of Śrī Matsya; varāt—by the benediction; vraje—in Vraja.

Translation

When Varuṇa's daughters saw Lord Hari as Śrī Matsya, they became bewildered with love for Him. By Lord Matsya's benediction they will become gopīs in Vraja.

āsīd rājā pṛthuḥ sākṣān mamāṁśaś caṇḍa-vikramaḥ jitvā śatrūn nṛpa-śreṣṭho dharāṁ kāmān dudoha saḥ

Translation

There was a powerful king named Pṛthu who was a partial incarnation of Me. After defeating His enemies, He, the best of kings, milked many desirable things from the earth.

barhiṣmati-bhavās tatra pṛthuṁ dṛṭṭvā pura-striyaḥ atreḥ samīpam āgatya tā ūcur moha-vihvalāḥ

Translation

When the women of Barhiṣmati City saw Lord Pṛthu they became overwhelmed with love for Him. Approaching Atri Muni, they said:

ayaṁ tu rāja-rājendraḥ pṛthuḥ pṛthula-vikramaḥ kathaṁ varo bhaven no vai tad vada tvaṁ mahā-mune

Translation

"O great sage, please tell us how powerful Pṛthu, the king of the kings of kings, may become our husband."

śrī-atrir uvāca go-dohaṁ kurutāśv adya pṛthvīyaṁ dhāraṇāmayī sarvaṁ dāsyati vo durgaṁ manoratha-mahārṇavam

śrī-atriḥ uvāca—Atri said; go-doham—cow's milk; kuruta—do; āśu—at once; adya—now; pṛthvī iyam—the earth; dharaṇāmayī—in meditation; sarvam—everything; dāsyati—will give; vaḥ—to you; durgam—difficult to attain; manoratha—of desires mahā-arṇavam—the great ocean.

Translation

Śrī Atri Muni said: In meditation make an offering of milk to her and the earth will give you a great and impassable ocean of fulfilled desires.

śrī-bhagavān uvāca manorathaṁ praduduhur manaḥ-pātreṇa tāś ca gām tasmād gopyo bhaviṣyanti vṛndāraṇye pitāmaha

Translation

The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: Using their thoughts as a milk-pail, they milked their desire from the cow-earth. In this way they will become gopīs in Vṛndāvana, O Brahmā.

kāma-senā-mohanārthaṁ divyā apsaraso varāḥ nārāyaṇasya sahasā babhuvur gandha-mādane

Translation

To bewilder Kāmadeva's army, on Mount Gandhamādana Nārāyaṇa Ṛṣi manifested a host of the most beautiful divine Apsarā girls.

bhārtṛ-kāmāś ca tā āha siddho nārāyaṇo muniḥ manoratho vo bhavitā vraje gopyo bhaviṣyatha

Translation

When they wished Him as their husband, perfect Nārāyaṇa Ṛṣi said to them, "You will become gopīs in Vraja. Then your desire will be fulfilled."

When the women of Sutalaloka saw Lord Vāmana, they fell in love with Him and (to attain Him) they performed austerities. They will become gopī in Vraja, O Brahmā.

Translation

Snake princesses that, desiring Him as their husband, worshiped Lord Śeṣa, will take birth in Vraja (to attain) Lord Balarāma's rāsa dance.

Translation

Vasu will decsned as Uddhava, Dakṣa as kind Akrūra, Kuvera as Hṛdīka, and Varuṇa as Kṛtavarmā.

gadaḥ pracīnabarhiś ca maruto hy ugrasena ut tasya rakṣaṁ kariṣyāmi rājyaṁ datvā vidhānataḥ

Translation

Pracīnabarhi will descend as Gada and Maruta as Ugrasena. I will give the kingdom to Ugrasena and I will protect him.

yuyudhānaś cāmbarīṣaḥ prahlādaḥ satyakis tathā kṣīrābdhiḥ śāntanuḥ sākṣād bhīṣmo droṇo vasūttamaḥ

Translation

Ambarīṣa will descend as Yuyudhāna, Prahlāda as Satyaki, Kṣīrābdhi as Śantanu, and Droṇa Vasūttama as Bhīṣma.

śālyaś caiva divodāso dhṛtarāṣṭro bhago raviḥ pāṇḍuḥ puṣā satāṁ śreṣṭho dharmo rājā yudhiṣṭhiraḥ

Translation

Divodāsa will decsend as Śālya, Bhaga as Dhṛtarāṣṭra, Puṣā as Pāṇḍu, and King Dharma, the best of the devotees, as Yudhiṣṭhira.

bhīmo vāyur baliṣṭhaś ca manuḥ svāyambhuvo 'rjunaḥ śatarūpā subhadrā ca savitā karṇa eva hi

Translation

Powerful Vāyu will descend as Bhīma, Svāyambhuva Manu as Arjuna, Śatarūpā as Subhadrā, and Savitā as Karṇa.

nakulaḥ sahadevaś ca smṛtau dvāv aśvinī-sutau dhātā bāhlīkavīraś ca vahnir droṇaḥ pratāpavān

Translation

The two Aśvinī-kumāras will descend as Nakula and Sahadeva. Dhātā will descend as heroic Bāhlīka, and powerful Vahni as Droṇācārya.

duryodhanaḥ kaler aṁśo 'bhimanyuḥ soma eva ca drauṇiḥ sākṣāc chivasyāpi rūpaṁ bhūmau bhaviṣyati

Translation

A partial incarnation of Kali will descend as Duryodhana. Soma will descend as Abhimanyu. Lord Śiva will place His own form on the earth as Droṇācārya's son Aśvatthāmā.

itthaṁ yadoḥ kauravāṇām anyeṣāṁ bhū-bhujāṁ nṛṇām kule kule bhavantaś ca svāṁśaiḥ stribhir mad-ājṣayā

Synonyms

Translation

In this way, by My order (the demigods) and their wives will take birth in the families of the Yadus, Kurus, and other human kings.

ye ye—whoever; avatārāḥ—incarnations; me—of Me; pūrvam—previously; teṣām—of Them; rājṣyaḥ—kings; ramā—of the goddess of fortune; aṁśakāḥ—partial expansions; bhaviṣyāḥ—will be; rāja-rājṣīṣu—in queens; sahasrāṇi—thousands; ca—and; ṣoḍaśa—sixteen.

Translation

Whenever in the past I incarnated in the world, the goddess of fortune would also incarnate as My queen. This time she will incarnate as My sixteen-thousand queens.

Śrī Nārada said: After speaking these words to the demigod Brahmā, who sits on a lotus throne, Śrī Hari spoke to goddess Yogamāyā, whose form is spiritual.

nanda-vraje sthitāyāṁ ca rohiṇyāṁ sanniveśaya nanda-patnyāṁ bhava tvaṁ vai kṛtvedaṁ karma cādbhutam śrī-bhagavān uvāca—the Supreme Personality of Godhead said; devakyāḥ—of Devakī; saptamam—the seventh; garbham—embryo; sannikṛṣya—dragging; mahā-mate+O noble-hearted one; vasudevasya—of Vasudeva; bharyāyām—in the wife; kaṁsa—of Kaṁsa; trāsa—of the fear; bhayāt—of the fear; punaḥ—again; nanda—of Nanda; vraje—in Vraja; sthitāyām—staying; ca—also; rohiṇyām—in Rohiṇī; sanniveśaya—place; nanda-patnyām—in Nanda's wife; bhava—be; tvam—you; vai—certainly; kṛtvā—having done; idam—this; karma—work; ca—also; adbhutam—wonderful. The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: O noble-hearted one, take the seventh embryo from Vasudeva's wife Devakī and place it in Rohiṇī, who is staying in Vraja out of fear of Kaṁsa. When you have done that wonderful deed, you yourself become an embryo in Nanda's wife.

Śrī Nārada said: Hearing this, Brahmā and the demigods bowed down before Lord Kṛṣṇa, who is greater than the greatest, and, comforted the earth-goddess, and each went to his own abode.

paripūrṇatamaṁ sākṣāc chrī-kṛṣṇaṁ viddhi maithila kaṁsādīnāṁ vadhārthāya prāpto 'yaṁ bhūmi-maṇḍale

Translation

O king of Mithilā, please understand that Śrī Kṛṣṇa, who went to the earth to kill the demons headed by Kaṁsa, is the original Supreme Personality of Godhead.

Translation

O king, If I had as many tongues as there are hairs on my body, I could still not properly describe Śrī Hari's great and glorious qualities.

nabhaḥ patanti vihagā yathā hy ātma-samaṁ nṛpa tathā kṛṣṇa-gatiṁ divyaṁ vadantīha vipaścitaḥ

Translation

O king, as different birds have different capacities to fly in the sky, so the wise philosophers have different capacities to describe Lord Kṛṣṇa's transcendental activities.
