vaiśampāyana uvāca
atrāścaryātmakam stotramāhnikaṁ jayatāṁ vara |
pradyumne dvārakāṁ prāpte hatvā taṁ kālaśambaram ||2-109-1
Translation
baladevena rakṣārthaṁ proktamāhnikamucyate |
vaiśampāyana said:
O the best among the victorious! (O janamejaya!) There is a most wonderful hymn Ahnika, recited by baladeva (balarāma) for protection, on the arrival of pradyumna in the city of dvāraka after slaying kālaśambara.
yajjaptvā tu nṛpaśreṣṭha sāyaṁ pūtātmatāṁ vrajet ||2-109-2
If recited in the evening, O the best among kings, (O janamejaya! vaiśampāyana continued), this hymn is capable of purifying souls.
kīrtitaṁ baladevena viṣṇunā caiva kīrtitam |
dharmakāmaiścha munibhirṛṣibhiścāpi kīrtitam ||2-109-3
This hymn is recited by baladeva (balarāma) as well as by viṣṇu. This hymn is also recited by the sages who desire dharma.
karhichidrukmiṇīputro halinā saṁyuto gṛhe |
upaviṣṭaḥ praṇamyātha tamuvāca kṛtāṣjaliḥ ||2-109-4
One day, when the son of rukmiṇī (pradyumna) was with hali (balarāma) in his house, he (pradyumna) bowed to him and spoke to him with folded hands.
pradyumna uvāca
kṛṣṇānuja mahābhāga rohiṇītanaya prabho |
kiṣchitstotraṁ mama brūhi yajjaptvā nirbhayo'bhavam ||2-109-5
pradyumna said:
O the one whose younger brother is kṛṣṇa! O the highly distinguished one! son of rohiṇī! O lord! Please tell me a hymn, reciting which I shall become fearless.
baladeva uvāca
surāsuragururbrahmā pātu māṁ jagataḥ patiḥ |
athoṅkāravaṣaṭkārau sāvitrī vidhayastrayaḥ ||2-109-6
baladeva (balarāma) said:
O the lord of the world, the preceptor of deva-s and asura-s! O brahma! Protect me. The oṅkara, vaṣaṭkāra and sāvitrī and the three vidhi-s shall protect me.
ṛcho yajūṁṣi sāmāni chandāmsyātharvaṇāni ca |
catvārastvakhilā vedāḥ sarahasyāḥ savistarāḥ ||2-109-7
The ṛk, yajuḥ, sāma and atharva - all the four vedas, complete, together with their secrets and explanations,
purāṇamitihāsāścākhilānyupakhilāni ca |
aṅgānyupāṅgāni tathā vyākhyātāni ca pāntu mām ||2-109-8
all the purāṇa-s, itihāsa-s along with supplements and with sub-supplements, aṅga-s and upaṅga-s and also the commentaries shall protect me.
pṛthivī vāyurākāśamāpo jyotishcha paṣchamam |
indriyāṇi mano buddhistathā sattvaṁ rajastamaḥ ||2-109-9
The earth, the wind, the sky, the water and the light - all the five, along with senses, mind, intellect, goodness, passion and darkness (the three qualities),
vyānodānau samānaścha prāṇo'pānaścha paṣchamaḥ |
vāyavaḥ sapta chaivānye yeṣvāyattamidaṁ jagat ||2-109-10
All the five airs - circulating air, upward breathing air, air for digestion, air for respiration and the air that goes down and the seven airs of the world,
marīciraṅgirātriścha pulastyaḥ pulahaḥ kratuḥ |
bhṛgurvasiṣṭho bhagavānpāntu te māṁ maharṣayaḥ ||2-109-11
and all the great sages marīchi, aṅgiras, pulastya, pulaha, kratu, bhṛgu and the lord vasiṣṭha shall protect me.
kaśyapādyāścha munayashcaturdaśa disho daśa |
naranārāyaṇau devau sagaṇau pāntu māṁ sadā ||2-109-12
The fourteen sages such as kashyapa, the ten directions, nara and nārāyaṇa and all other deva-s shall always protect me.
rudrāśchaikādaśa proktā ādityā dvādaśaiva tu |
aṣṭau ca vasavo devā ashvinau dvau prakīrtitau ||2-109-13
The eleven rudra-s and the twelve āditya-s, the eight vasu-s and the two famous ashvin-s shall protect me.
hrīḥ śrīrlakṣmīḥ svadhā puṣṭirmedhā tuṣṭiḥ smṛtirdhṛtiḥ |
aditirditirdanushcaiva siṁhikā daityamātaraḥ ||2-109-14
hrī, śrī, lakṣmī, svadhā, puṣṭi, medhā, tuṣṭi, smṛti, dhṛti, aditi, the mothers of demons diti, danu and siṁhikā,
himavānhemakūṭaścha niṣadhaḥ śvetaparvataḥ |
ṛṣabhaḥ pāriyātraścha vindhyo vaiḍūryaparvataḥ ||2-109-15
himavān, hemakūṭa, niṣadha, the mountain śveta, ṛṣabha, pāriyātra, vindhya, the mountain vaiḍūrya,
sahyodayashcha malayo merumandaradardurāḥ |
krauṣchakailāsamainākāḥ pāntu māṁ dharaṇīdharāḥ ||2-109-16
sahya, udaya, malaya, meru, mandara, dardura, krauṣcha, kailāsa, maināka mountains shall protect me.
śeṣaścha vāsukiścaiva viśālākṣaścha takṣakaḥ |
elāpatraḥ śuklavarṇaḥ kambalāśvatarāvubhau ||2-109-17
śeṣa, vāsuki as well as viśālakṣa, takṣaka, elāpatra, śuklavarṇa, kambala, ashvatara,
hastibhadraḥ piṭarakaḥ karkoṭakadhanaṣjayau |
tathā pūraṇakaścaiva nāgaścha karavīrakaḥ ||2-109-18
hastibhadra, piṭaraka, karkoṭaka, dhanaṣjaya as well as purāṇaka and the serpent karavīraka
sumanāsyo dadhimukhastathā śṛṅgārapiṇḍakaḥ |
maṇināgaścha bhagavāṁstriṣu lokeṣu viśrutaḥ ||2-109-19
sumanāsya, dadhimukha, śṛngārapiṇḍaka and lord maṇināga who is famous in the three worlds,
nāgarāḍadhikarṇaścha tathā hāridrako'paraḥ |
ete cānye ca bahavo ye cānye nānukīrtitāḥ ||2-109-20
the king of serpents adhikarṇa and hāridraka and many others who are not cited here,
bhūdharāḥ satyadharmāṇaḥ pāntu māṁ bhujageśvarāḥ |
samudrāḥ pāntu catvāro gaṅgā ca saritāṁ varā ||2-109-21
the ones who carry the earth, the one who lives according to the truth and dharma, the lord serpent, shall protect me. All the four oceans and the best among the rivers gaṅgā shall protect me.
sarasvatī candrabhāgā śatadrurdevikā śivā |
dvārāvatī vipāśā ca śarayūryamunā tathā ||2-109-22
sarasvatī, candrabhāgā, shatadru, devikā, śivā, dvāravatī, vipāśā, sarayū as well as yamunā shall protect me.
kalmāśī ca rathoṣmā ca bāhudā ca hiraṇyadā |
plakṣā chekṣumatī caiva sravantī ca bṛhadrathā ||2-109-23
kalmāśī, rathoṣmā, bahudā and hiraṇyadā, plakṣā, ikṣumatī as well as sravantī and bṛhadrathā shall protect me.
khyātā charmaṇvatī caiva puṇyā caiva vadhūsarā |
etāścānyāścha sarito yāścānyā nānukīrtitāḥ ||2-109-24
The famous river charmaṇvatī as well as the auspicious vadhusarā as well as other rivers who are not eulogized here,
uttarāpathagāminyaḥ salilaiḥ snapayantu mām |
veṇī godāvarī sītā kāverī kauṅkaṇāvatī ||2-109-25
and all the rivers of the north shall bathe me with fresh water and protect me. veṇī, godāvarī, sītā, kāverī, kauṅkaṇāvatī,
kṛṣṇā veṇā muktimatī tamasā puṣpavāhinī |
tāmraparṇī jyotirathā utphalodumbarāvatī ||2-109-26
kṛṣṇā, veṇā, muktimatī, tamasā, puṣpavāhinī, tāmraparṇī, jyotirathā, utphalā, udumbarāvatī,
nadī vaitaraṇī puṇyā vidarbhā narmadā śubhā |
vitastā bhīmarathyā ca ailā caiva mahānadī ||2-109-27
the river vaitaraṇī, the pious river vidarbhā, and auspicious narmadā, vitastā, bhīmarathyā as also the great river aila,
kālindī gomatī puṇyā nadaḥ śoṇaścha viśrutaḥ |
etāśchanyāścha vai nadyo yāścānyā na tu kīrtitāḥ ||2-109-28
kālindī, the pious river gomatī, the famous river śoṇa as also other rivers which are not cited here,
dakṣiṇāpathavāhinyaḥ salilaiḥ snapayantu mām |
kṣiprā charmaṇvatī puṇyā mahī śubhravatī tathā ||2-109-29
and all the rivers of the south shall bathe me with fresh water and protect me. kṣiprā, charmaṇvatī, mahī with sacred waters, as well as śubhravatī,
sindhurvetravatī caiva bhojāntā vanamālikā |
pūrvabhadrā parābhadrā ūrmilā ca paradrumā ||2-109-30
sindhu, vetravatī, as also bhojānta, vanamālikā, pūrvabhadrā, parābhadrā, ūrmilā and paradrumā,
khyātā vetravatī caiva cāpadāsīti viśrutā |
prasthāvatī kuṇḍanadī nadī puṇyā sarasvatī ||2-109-31
the famous vetravatī as also the river famous as cāpadāsī, prasthāvatī, the river kuṇḍa and the pious river sarasvatī,
citraghnī chendumālā ca tathā madhumatī nadī |
umā gurunadī caiva tāpī ca vimalodakā ||2-109-32
citraghnī, indumālā as also river madhumatī, umā, the river guru, and also tāpī and the river vimalodakā,
vimalā vimalodā ca mattagaṅgā payasvinī |
etāścānyāścha vai nadyo yāścānyā nānukīrtitāḥ ||2-109-33
vimalā, vimalodā, mattagaṅgā, payasvinī and also other large rivers which are not cited here,
tā māṁ samabhiṣiṣchantu paśchimāmāśritā disham |
bhāgīrathī puṇyajalā prācyāṁ dishi samāśritā ||2-109-34
sā tu dahatu me pāpaṁ kīrtitā śambhunā dhṛtā |
the rivers which are flowing in the west, shall bathe me with water. The auspicious river of the east, bhāgīrathī, which is worn by shambhu (shiva), shall destroy my sins, as I recite her name.
prabhāsaṁ ca prayāgaṁ ca naimiṣaṁ puṣkarāṇi ca ||2-109-35
gaṅgātīrthaṁ kurukṣetraṁ śrīkaṇṭhaṁ gautamāśramam |
rāmahradaṁ vinaśanaṁ rāmatīrthaṁ tathaiva ca ||2-109-36
prabhāsa, prayāga, naimiṣa, puṣkara, gaṅgā, kurukṣetra, śrīkaṇṭha, gautamāśrama, (parashu)rāmahradaṁ, vinaśanaṁ as also rāmatīrthaṁ
gaṅgādvāraṁ kanakhalaṁ somo vai yatra chotthitaḥ |
kapālamochanaṁ tīrthaṁ jambūmārgaṁ ca vishrutam ||2-3-109-37
gaṅgādvāraṁ, kanakhalaṁ, the place where soma rose up, the tīrtha kapālamochanaṁ, the famous jambūmārgaṁ,
suvarṇabindu vikhyātaṁ tathā kanakapiṅgalam |
daśāśvamedhikaṁ caiva puṇyāśramavibhūṣitam ||2-109-38
the famous suvarṇabindu and also kanakapiṅgalam, daśāśvamedhika tīrtha the place where ten ashvamedha sacrifices were held, decorated by auspicious Ashrama-s,
badarī caiva vikhyātā naranārāyaṇāśramaḥ |
vikhyātaṁ phalgutīrthaṁ ca tīrthaṁ candravaṭaṁ tathā ||2-109-39
the āśrama of nara and nārāyaṇa, famous ashrama of badarī, the famous phalgutīrtha and the tīrtha candravaṭaṁ,
kokāmukhaṁ puṇyatamaṁ gangāsāgarameva ca |
magadheṣu tapodashcha gaṅgodbhedaścha viśrutaḥ ||2-109-40
the famous kokāmukhaṁ, the best auspicious gangāsāgara, tapoda and the famous gaṅgobheda of magadha,
tīrthānyetāni puṇyāni sevitāni maharṣibhiḥ |
[sūkaraṁ yogamārgaṁ ca śvetadvīpaṁ tathaiva ca ||2-109-41
The auspicious tīrtha-s such as these, served by the great sages, sūkaraṁ, yogamārgaṁ and also śvetadvīpaṁ,
brahmatīrthaṁ rāmatīrthaṁ vājimedhaśatopamam |
dhārāsaṁpātasaṁyuktā gaṅgā kilbiṣanāśinī ||2-109-42
brahmatīrthaṁ, rāmatīrthaṁ giving fruits of one hundred horse sacrifices, flowing gaṅgā which destroys the sins,
gaṅgā vaikuṇṭhakedāraṁ sūkarodbhedanaṁ param |
taṁ śāpamochanaṁ tīrthaṁ punantvetāni kilbiṣāt] ||2-109-43
gaṅgā, vaikuṇṭḥa kedāra, the best sūkarodbhedanaṁ, śāpamochana tīrtha the tīrtha which removes all the sins,
māṁ plāvayantu salilaiḥ kīrtitākīrtitāni vai |
shall bathe me in water, along with those tīrtha-s whose name is not eulogized here.
dharmārthakāmaviṣayo yaśaḥprāptiḥ shamo damaḥ |
varuṇeśo'tha dhanado yamo niyama eva ca ||2-109-44
The subjects of discharge of duty, acquisition of wealth, gratification of desire, attainment of fame, calmness, self restraints, varuṇa, lord (indra), the lord of wealth, lord of death, restraining,
kālo nayaḥ saṁnatiścha krodho mohaḥ kṣamā dhṛtiḥ |
vidyuto'bhrāṇyathauṣadhyaḥ pramādonmādavigrahāḥ ||2-109-45
time, policy, humility, anger, confusion, patience, resolution, lightning, clouds, medicinal plants, pramāda, unmāda and vigraha
yakṣāḥ piśācā gandharvāḥ kinnarāḥ siddhacāraṇāḥ |
naktaṣcarāḥ khechariṇo daṁṣṭriṇaḥ priyavigrahāḥ ||2-109-46
yakṣa, piśāca, gandharva, kinnara, siddha, cāraṇa, those who travel during the night, those who travel through the sky, those who have large teeth eating flesh,
lambodarāścha balinaḥ piṅgākṣā viśvarūpiṇaḥ |
marutaḥ saha parjanyāḥ kalātruṭilavāḥ kṣaṇāḥ ||2-109-47
powerful lambodara, those with red eyes, those with large bodies, the wind gods, the rain god, kalā, truṭi, lava and kṣaṇa,
nakṣatrāṇi grahāścaiva ṛtavaḥ śiśirādayaḥ |
māsāhorātrayaścaiva sūryācandramasau tathā ||2-109-48
stars, planets, seasons such as winter, months, day and night, sun as well as moon,
āmodaśca pramodashcha praharṣaḥ shoka eva ca |
rajastamastapaḥ satyaṁ śuddhirbuddhirdhṛtiḥ śrutiḥ ||2-109-49
joy and delight, immense happiness, sadness, passion, darkness as well as penance, truth, purity, intellect, resolution and sacred knowledge, protect me.
rudrāṇī bhadrakālī ca bhadrā jyeṣṭhā tu vāruṇī |
bhāsī ca kālikā caiva śāṇḍilī cheti viśrutāḥ ||2-109-50
rudrāṇī, bhadrakālī, bhadrā, jyeṣṭhā, vāruṇī, bhāsī, kālikā as well as the famous śāṇḍilī
āryā kuhūḥ sinīvālī bhīmā citrarathī ratiḥ |
ekānaṁśā ca kūṣmāṇḍī devī kātyāyanī ca yā ||2-109-51
āryā, kuhū, sinīvālī, bhīmā, citrarathī, rati, ekānaṁśā, kūṣmāṇḍī, goddess kātyāyanī,
lohityā janamātā ca devakanyāstu yāḥ smṛtāḥ |
gonandā devapatnī ca māṁ rakṣantu sabāndhavam ||2-109-52
lohityā, the mother of people, the divine women who are remembered, gonandā and devapatnī shall protect me along with all relatives.
nānābharaṇaveśāścha nānārūpāṅkitānanāḥ |
nānādeśavicāriṇyo nānāśastropaśobhitāḥ ||2-109-53
Those who are attired in varieties of clothes, decorated in variety of ornaments, appear in different forms, those who wander in different lands, those who hold varieties of weapons shall protect me.
medomajjāpriyāścaiva madyamāmsavasāpriyāḥ |
mārjāradvīpivaktrāścha gajasiṁhanibhānanāḥ ||2-109-54
as well as those who like fat and marrow, those who like liquor, flesh and serum, those who have the face of cats, tigers, elephants and lions,
kaṅkavāyasagṛdhrāṇāṁ krauṣchatulyānanāstathā |
vyālayajṣopavītāścha charmaprāvaraṇāstathā ||2-109-55
those having the faces of heron, crow, vulture and krauṣcha, those who wear the sacred thread of snakes, those who wear skins,
kṣatajokṣitavaktrāścha kharabherīsamasvanāḥ |
matsarāḥ krodhanāścaiva prāsādā rucirālayāḥ ||2-109-56
those who have blood in the mouths, those who have the sounds of harsh kettle drums, those who compete, angry as well as happy, those who have beautiful houses,
mattonmattapramattāścha praharantyashcha dhiṣṭhitāḥ |
piṅgākṣāḥ piṅgakeśāścha tato'nyā lūnamūrdhajāḥ ||2-109-57
those who are excited, highly excited and drunken who appear to beat others, those who have yellow eyes, yellow hair and others with shaven heads,
ūrdhvakeśyaḥ kṛṣṇakeśyaḥ śvetakeśyastathā varāḥ |
nāgāyutabalāścaiva vāyuvegāstathāparāḥ ||2-109-58
those who having their hairs up, those who have black hair, the best having white hair, those who have the strength of thousands of elephants, others who travel with the speed of wind,
ekahastā ekapādā ekākṣāḥ piṅgalā matāḥ |
bahuputrālpaputrāścha dviputrāḥ putramaṇḍikāḥ ||2-109-59
those who have only one arm, one foot, one eye having yellow colour, those who have many children, less children and those with two children, those who play with children,
mukhamaṇḍī biḍālī ca pūtanā gandhapūtanā |
śītavātoṣṇavetālī revatī gṛhasaṁjṣitāḥ ||2-109-60
those who are famous with the names of mukhamaṇḍī, biḍālī, pūtanā, gandhaputanā, śītavātoṣṇavetālī, revatī,
priyahāsyāḥ priyakrodhāḥ priyavāsāḥ priyaṁvadāḥ |
sukhapradāścāsukhadāḥ sadā dvijajanapriyāḥ || 2-109-61
those who like humour, anger, those who like clothes and those who speak good words, those who provide happiness as well as sorrow, those who are liked by the twice borns,
naktaṣcarāḥ sukhodarkāḥ sadā parvaṇi dāruṇāḥ |
mātaro mātṛvatputraṁ rakṣantu mama nityaśaḥ ||2-109-62
those who move in the night, those who bring good, those who are always cruel, those mothers always protect me like mothers protect children.
pitāmahamukhodbhūtā raudrā rudrāṅgasaṁbhavāḥ |
kumārasvedajāścaiva jvarā vai vaiṣṇavādayaḥ ||2-109-63
Those who are born from the face of the great grandfather, those who are terrible, those born from the limbs of rudra, those who are born from the sweat of kumara (kārtikeya) as well as the fevers such as vaiṣṇava,
mahābhīmā mahāvīryā darpodbhūtā mahābalāḥ |
krodhanākrodhanāḥ krūrāḥ suravigrahakāriṇaḥ ||2-109-64
those who are huge, highly valiant, born from false pride, highly powerful, those who are angry and those who are not angry, those who are cruel, those who appear like deva-s,
naktaṣcarāḥ kesariṇo daṁṣṭriṇaḥ priyavigrahāḥ |
lambodarā jaghaninaḥ piṅgākṣā viśvarūpiṇaḥ ||2-109-65
those who travel in the night, those with lion-like face, those who have large teeth, those who create strife, those having large belly, those having large waist, those having yellow eyes and those who have large forms,
śaktyṛṣṭiśūlaparighaprāsacharmāsipāṇayaḥ |
pinākavajramusalabrahmadaṇḍāyudhapriyāḥ ||2-109-66
those who hold the weapons, spear, lance and spike, iron bludgeon, darts and shields, those who like the weapons, trident (pināka), vajra, and mace (musala) and brahma's staff (brahmadaṇḍa),
daṇḍinaḥ kuṇḍinaḥ śūrā jaṭāmukuṭadhāriṇaḥ |
vedavedāṅgakuśalā nityayajṣopavītinaḥ ||2-109-67
those who hold staffs and pots, the valiants, those who wear twisted locks of hair, those who wear crowns, those who are experts in veda-s and the parts thereof, those who always wear the sacred thread of sacrifice,
vyālāpīḍāḥ kuṇḍalino vīrāḥ keyūradhāriṇaḥ |
nānāvasanasaṁvītāścitramālyānulepanāḥ ||2-109-68
those who wear -- of the serpents, and those who wear ear ornaments, valiants, those who wear bracelets on upper arms, those who wear various kinds of clothes, those who decorate with beautiful garlands and smear their bodies with pastes,
gajāśvoṣtrarkṣamārjārasiṁhavyāghranibhānanāḥ |
varāholūkagomāyumṛgākhumahiṣānanāḥ ||2-109-69
those having the faces of elephants, horses, camels, bears, cats, lions and tigers, those having the faces of boar, owl, jackal, deer, rat and buffalo
vāmanā vikaṭāḥ kubjāḥ karālā lūnamūrdhajāḥ |
sahasraśataśaścānye sahasrajaṭadhāriṇaḥ ||2-109-70
those who are short, deformed, hunchbacks, karāla-s and those who have shaved their head, and one hundred thousand others and thousand who wear twisted locks of hair,
śvetāḥ kailāsasanṅkāśāḥ kechiddinakaraprabhāḥ |
kechijjaladavarṇābhā nīlāṣjanachayopamāḥ ||2-109-71
those who are white like kailāsa, those who are bright like sun, those who are dark as rain clouds, those who sparkle like the blue a~jana stone,
ekapādā dvipādāścha tathā dviśiraso'pare |
nirmāṁsāḥ sthūlajaṅghāścha vyāditāsyā bhayaṅkarāḥ ||2-109-72
those having one foot, those having two feet and others with two heads, those having no flesh, those having large waists, those having wide open mouths, those who are terrible,
vāpītaḍāgakūpeṣu samudreṣu saritsu ca |
śmaśānaśailavṛkṣeṣu śūnyāgāranivāsinaḥ || 2-109-73
ete grahāścha satataṁ rakṣantu mama sarvataḥ
the planets and those who stay in ponds, lakes and pools, ocean, rivers, places of burial, mountains, trees and empty houses shall always protect me in all ways.
mahāgaṇapatirnandī mahākālo mahābalaḥ |
māheśvaro vaiṣṇavaścha jvarau lokabhayāvahau ||2-109-74
The great lord of gaṇa-s (gaṇeśa), nandi, the great kāla, the one with great power, both the fevers of the great lord (shiva) and viṣṇu, who are fearful to the world,
grāmaṇīścaiva gopālo bhṛṅgarīṭirgaṇeśvaraḥ |
devashcha vāmadevaścha ghaṇṭākarṇaḥ karaṁdhamaḥ ||2-109-75
grāmaṇī, gopāla, bhṛṅgarīṭi, the lord of gaṇa-s (gaṇeśa), the lord as well as vāmadeva, the one who has bells on his ears (ghaṇtākarṇa), karaṁdhama,
śvetamodaḥ kapālī ca jambhakaḥ śatrutāpanaḥ |
majjanonmajjanau chobhau saṁtāpanavilāpanau ||2-109-76
shevtamoda, kapālī, jambhaka, the one who burns the enemies, both majjana and unmajjana, both saṁtāpana and vilāpana
nijaghāso ghasashcaiva sthūṇākarṇaḥ praśoṣaṇaḥ |
ulkāmālī dhamadhamo jvālāmālī pradarśanaḥ ||2-109-77

suparṇa, shatapatra (lotus), chakora (Perdix rufe), jīvajīvaka, nandīmukha (a kind of waterbird), peacock and flagstaffs on which pearls gems are tied,
āyudhāni praśastāni kāryasiddhikarāṇi ca |
puṇyaṁ vai vigatakleśaṁ śrīmadvai maṅgalānvitam ||2-109-102
the weapons, famous for accomplishing the tasks and all those providing good fortune and those destroy the difficulties, along with good results shall protect me.
rāmeṇodāhṛtaṁ pūrvamāyuḥ śrījayakāṅkṣiṇā |
ya idaṁ śrāvayedvidvāṁstathaiva śṛṇuyānnaraḥ ||2-109-103
This was recited by balarāma long ago. Those men who desire long life, prosperity and victory, get it recited by wise men and hear it.
maṅgalāṣṭaśataṁ snāto japanparvaṇi parvaṇi |
vadhabandhaparikleśaṁ vyādhiśokaparābhavam ||2-109-104
if one chants this hymn along with one hundred and eight auspicious names, after taking bath during the days of the changes of the moon, they will not be affected by the sufferings of death and attachment, disease and sorrow.
na ca prāpnoti vaikalyaṁ paratreha ca sharmadam |
dhanyaṁ yaśasyamāyuṣyaṁ pavitraṁ vedasaṁmitam ||2-109-105
This hymn is good for this world and for the other world. This holy hymn equal to the veda-s will provide fortune, fame and long life.
śrīmatsvargyaṁ sadā puṇyamapatyajananaṁ shivam |
śubhaṁ kṣemakaraṁ nṝṇāṁ medhājananamuttamam ||2-109-106
This hymn always provides prosperity. It is heavenly, holy, providing progeny and auspicious. This provides good fortune, prosperity. Providing the benefits of penance, this is best for men.
sarvarogapraśamanaṁ svakīrtikulavardhanam |
This hymn cures all diseases and it increases the fame of self and the race.
śraddadhāno dayopeto yaḥ paṭhedātmavānnaraḥ |
sarvapāpaviśuddhātmā labhate ca śubhāṁ gatim ||2-109-107
If a kind hearted person recites this hymn with attention, his soul will be purified of all sins. He will attain an auspicious world.
